The Muslim Marriage Act was drafted into the Indian legal system in the year 1954. The Act regulates the function of performing marriages among the Muslim community in India. According to this Act, both the groom and the bride are to agree to the marriage of their free wills. A marriage in Islam must be between opposite sex partners who are not too closely related to each other. Muslim men are permitted to choose wives from among fellow believers or from among other “people of the book” like Christians and Jews. Women are expected to marry only other Muslims. In today's world, Muslims practice Muslim marriage laws in different ways all over the globe. The study also shares that “in some cases, the Islamic marriage contract is completed once the couple has decided to get married, but coexistence occurs later after the wedding reception. In other cases, the Islamic marriage contract is completed simultaneously with the civil marriage and is followed immediately by the wedding reception.”
