Media & Social Responsibilities

As seen by Facebook's phenomenal growth, social media networks tap into our inherent desire to connect. Social media platforms help us to grow and deepen our personal networks in new ways by providing us with the tools and technology to engage and share the specifics of our lives with those who matter to us, whether it's our immediate family or college friends. At the same time, these platforms enable businesses and other groups to participate and develop ties. Individuals and corporations use social media to broaden their reach and networks, often without thinking about the long-term implications of their actions. At its foundation, social media is about real-world interactions. Transparency in these venues lifts the veil that some individuals and businesses employ to conceal their genuine identity, for whatever cause, good or evil. While the advent of social media has made us more connected, we must remember that behind every Facebook page, blog post, YouTube video, and tweet is a human person with real feelings.
