Journalism Ethics

Presentations | English

Ethics are the set of moral principles that guide a person's behavior. These morals are shaped by social norms, cultural practices, and religious influences. Journalistic ethics are what we say, a set of principles, standards, guidelines, and codes of conduct prepared for professional journalists. It deals with the conduct, character, and behavior of a journalist and how she works before, during, and after the news gathering and dissemination process. Ethics with standards address how the reporters achieve fairness, how they handle conflicts of interest, and how they pursue stories with compassion and empathy. The ethical violation in journalism means publishing allegations by a single source without attempting to verify accuracy. Omitting facts provided to the journalist would lead the reader/viewer to a different conclusion. The Ethical Journalism Network (EJN) is an organization created to 'strengthen the craft of journalism and to promote for the public benefit high ethical standards in journalism.
