Terms & Concepts

A concept is a generalised idea that can be applied to all objects in a collection. It refers to how people perceive and comprehend something. A "term" is the name given to a concept (the concept's label). The same concept can be described in a variety of ways. The terms "car" and "automobile" are interchangeable. For the same concept, different languages have different terms. This is what allows translation to take place. Although the terminology varies by language, the concept remains the same. The concepts are the actual things you're attempting to model, while the terms are simply what you call them. Prioritize concepts before moving on to terms. We observed that gaining a clear understanding of the underlying concepts is easier than reaching a consensus on terms.
