Group work is a method of social work which helps individuals to enhance their social functioning through purposeful group experiences, and to cope more effectively with their personal problems. It is characterised by its purpose, intended outcomes, processes and focus on mutual influence. Groups offer members a place where they can learn new knowledge and practice new behaviors and skills. Here members can express their emotions, thoughts, and ideas. It offers members effective feedback equipping them with chances for improvement. Group social work is important because it provides people with a support network and reduces feelings of isolation and helplessness. Furthermore, being in a group setting will help people to learn how to behave in a social setting going forward.
