The focus of counter cinema is on media and cinema that rejects and criticises the language and themes presented in popular film and media. They are a category of counter-activity that is acknowledged as a reliable form of opposition to the dominant media's prevailing ideology, norms, and notions. Women still today are among the groups that are not given enough credit, particularly in the world of film. The female-oriented film is referred to as "female-oriented cinema" while the male-focused film is referred to as "cinema."
