"Kollavarsham Kollavarsham is an astrology-based calendar exclusively used in Kerala, which is the reason why it is also known as Malayalavarsham. Kollavarsham begins in the year AD 825. While astrological calendars in the rest of India used solar year and lunar months to measure time, Kollavarsham employed solar year and solar months. It is believed this system was introduced by the erstwhile king of Venad Rajashekhara Varma. This calendar has 12 months starting with Chingam, Kanni, etc. The calendar starts from August 25th of AD 825."
