Transactional Analysis

Presentations | English

It takes seconds for a conversation to shift from a positive, connection-driven interaction into a negative one. According to Transactional Analysis (TA) , communication breakdowns happen because we are not fully present in our conversations. Transactional analysis was developed by psychiatrist Eric Berne. It is a form of modern psychology that examines a person's relationships and interactions. TA claims that we can better understand ourselves by analysing our transactions with the people closest to us. The goal of transactional analysis is to help the individual in therapy gain and maintain autonomy by strengthening the adult state. The atmosphere that supports transactional analysis is one of comfort, security, and respect. When a positive relationship is forged between the therapist and the person seeking treatment, this often provides a model for subsequent relationships developed outside of the therapy arena.
