Titus is a 'true son in faith' to Paul. He accompanied Paul in his missionary journeys and was given the responsibility of looking after a church that Paul helped establish. In this letter, we see Paul giving Titus advice on church authorities and their qualifications. Much like the first letter to Timothy, this letter also lays out many pointers regarding the order and functioning of the church. And also, like he did with the letter to Timothy, he warns against vain arguments and false knowledge. A special word is mentioned about Cretans and about their reputation. Key verse from the book of Titus: (2:15) These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.
