Srikurmam is a pilgrim centre in the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. One would come across an extremely ancient temple of Sri Kurmanadhaswamy, the second Avatar of lord Vishnu in the form of a tortoise. This, is infact, the only temple in the world where Vishnu is worshiped in the form of tortoise. The first part of this two-part series brings to you information on the uniqueness of the temple, its architectural features and the various festivals conducted here. The second part of the series is a brief description of the Kurmavataram and the local legends surrounding it. The part also offers information on the transport facilities available to get to this place.
శ్రీకూర్మం అనేది శ్రీకాకుళం జిల్లాలోని శ్రీ కూర్మనాధస్వామి వారి దేవస్థానం. శ్రీమహావిష్ణువు కూర్మావతారం రూపంలో ఇక్కడ పూజింపబడతాడు. ఇక్కడి విష్ణుమూర్తి తాబేలు రూపంలో కొలువై ఉంటాడు. ప్రపంచం లో ఈ మాదిరిగా ఉన్న కూర్మావతారం మందిరం ఇదొక్కటే. ఈ ఆలయం చాలా పురాతనమైనది కూడా. ఈ రెండు భాగాల శ్రేణి మొదటి భాగంలో శ్రీకూర్మం యొక్క ప్రధాన ఆకర్షణలు, ప్రత్యేకత, ఉత్సవాల గురించి వివరంగా తెలియజేయడం జరిగింది. రెండవ భాగంలో ఇక్కడి స్థల పురాణాలు, విష్ణుమూర్తి కూర్మావతారం ఎందుకు దాల్చాల్సి వచ్చింది, ఈ ఆలయానికి చేరుకోవడానికి గల రవాణా సౌకర్యం గురించి తెలియజేయడం జరిగింది.
