Sri Kukkuteswara Swami Temple, a famous pilgrimage centre dedicated to Lord Siva, is located in the town of Pithapuram in the East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. It is believed that in times long gone by, an asura called Gayasura had requested Siva to take form here, and pleased with him, Siva had taken the form of Kukkuteswara Swamy, right at this location. ఆంధ్ర ప్రదేశ్ తూర్పు గోదావరి జిల్లా పిఠాపురంలో కుక్కుటేశ్వర స్వామి ఆలయం ఉంది. ఇది పాదగయ క్షేత్రం; త్రిగయా క్షేత్రములలో ఒకటి. పూర్వం గయాసురుని కోరికమేరకు పరమశివుడు కుక్కుటేశ్వరస్వామిగా లింగరూపుడై స్వయంభువగా ఇక్కడ వెలిశారని క్షేత్రపురాణం చెబుతున్నది. అతి పురాతన శైవ క్షేత్రాలలో ఈ క్షేత్రం ప్రముఖమైనది. ఈ క్షేత్రంలోనే అష్టాదశ శక్తిపీఠాలలో 10వ శక్తి పీఠం అయినటువంటి పురోహితిక దేవి శక్తిపీఠం కూడా ఉంది. ఎంతో మహిమ కల ఈ క్షేత్రం గురించి మరిన్ని విసేసాలు ఈ ప్రదర్శనలో తెలియజేయడం జరిగింది.
