The Pallavas

The Pallavas ruled the Telugu lands, along with some parts of Odissa, Karnataka,Kerala and all of Tamil Nadu for close to 500 years. Their rule was not continuous but can be divided into two parts - The Early Pallavas and the Later Pallaves. During their times, great cities, temples and universtities were built. Despite being busy waging wars with the Bahamanis amongst others, the contribution of the Pallavas to temple architecture is especially noteworthy. They brought about new styles in temple architecture known as Guhaalayalu. They were great patrons of all forms of art.
