Cognitive functions enable humans to operate in the areas of personal, social, and vocational activities in everyday life. The ability to attend to things selectively and focused, to concentrate over time, to learn new information and skills, to plan, to determine strategies for actions, to execute them, to comprehend language, to use verbal skills for communication and self-expression, and to retain and manipulate information are all examples of cognitive function. While virtually all of these are taken for granted by most people, schizophrenia impairs them. Patients' social functioning is also affected by these limitations. Personal initiative, tenacity, and adaptive skill are all part of cognitive self-regulation, which is not an independent way of learning. Cognitive impairment in people with schizophrenia can be reduced if significant focus is paid to improving cognitive self-regulation abilities in these patients.
