The Battle of Palnadu is an important event in the history of Andhra Pradesh. Palnadu is a place in currentday Guntur District. Around 1140 AD, the kingdom of Gurajala was split and a new kingdom Macharla was formed. These kingdoms were ruled by cousins. In an episode very similar to the Mahabharatha story, the two kings and their ministers indulge in gambling, one loses and is sent away to the forests for 14 years. Upon returning, their kingdom is not handed back and so ensues a battle of epic proportions. Though this remains the basic plot, it is believed that feuds between the Saiva and the Vaishnava religions was the reason behind the battle. Know more on the history of this battle, the places where the battle took place, of the legenday female minister Nagamma and her counterpart, the great Brahmanaidu who had in those days oposed caste and class based segregations. Also included in this presentation are details of annual celebrations that are carried out by the locals even to this day, to commemorate their ancestors who had lost their lives in the Palnadu Yuddham.
