Avadhaanam is an unique form of poetry. It has its origins in Sanskrit literature but currently, only Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka can boast of a rich tradition in this field. The Avadhaani, or the poet is expected to come up with poems within a limited timespan, confining himself to the various complex rules of grammar and meter, and has to incorporate words offered by some members of the audience, while offering solutions to certain complex puzzling questions posed by some other members of the audience. To increase the complexity of this art, questions are sometimes posed by as many as 100 members or more and the Avadhaani has to answer these questions in the form of poetry, in the same order in whcih the questions are posed. It involves high levels of memory power, presence of mind and knowledge of the ancient texts, stories and the language itself. అవధానం ఒక ప్రత్యేకమైన కవితా రూపం. ఇది మొదటి సంస్కృతి లో ప్రాచుర్యం చెంది ఉండేది. కానీ ప్రస్తుతం, తెలుగు, కన్నడ భాషలలో, కొద్దిగా గుజరాతి లో కనబడుతుంది. అవధాని పరిమిత కాల వ్యవధిలో పద్యాలను వివిధ సంక్లిష్ట నియమాలకు కట్టుబడి అల్లుకురావాలి. కొన్ని చిక్కు ప్రశ్నలకు పరిష్కారాలను అందిస్తూ, కొంతమంది ప్రేక్షకులు అందించే పదాలను చేరుస్తూ, మరికొంత మంది ప్రేక్షకులు అడిగిన ప్రశ్నలకు సమాధానం అందిస్తూ కవితలను అల్లాలి. కొన్నిసార్లు 100 మంది లేదా అంతకంటే ఎక్కువ మంది ప్రశ్నలు వేస్తారు. అవధాని ఈ ప్రశ్నలకు కవితారూపంలో సమాధానం ఇవ్వవలసి ఉంటుంది. పైగా ప్రశ్నలు వేసినా వరుసలోనే సమాధానాలు ఇవ్వవలసి ఉంటుంది. అవధానం చెయ్యడానికి బోలెడంత ప్రజ్ఞ, జ్ఞ్యాపకాసక్తి మరియు గొప్ప పాడిత్యం అవసరం. అవధానం అనే కళారూపం మరియు ప్రస్తుత ప్రముఖ తెలుగు అవధానాల గురించి తెలియజేసే ప్రయత్నం ఈ చిన్ని ప్రదర్శన.
