തത്ത്വശാസ്ത്രം. മനുഷ്യനെയും അവനെ ചുറ്റിപ്പറ്റിയുള്ള പ്രകൃതിയെയും പ്രപഞ്ചത്തെയും സംബന്ധിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാ ചിന്തകളും ആദ്യകാലത്ത് തത്ത്വചിന്തയിലാണ് ഉൾപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നത്. ക്രമേണയാണ് ജ്യോതിശാസ്ത്രവും ഗണിത ശാസ്ത്രവും ജീവശാസ്ത്രവും തുടങ്ങി ഇന്ന് നാം പഠിക്കുന്ന വിവിധ ശാസ്ത്രശാഖകൾ അതിൽനിന്ന് സ്വതന്ത്രമായത്‌ ഒരാളുടെ ആശയങ്ങൾ മറ്റൊരാൾ‍ക്ക് ശരിയാണെന്നു തോന്നണമെന്നുമില്ല. അതുകൊണ്ടു ആശയങ്ങളെ സമ്പന്നമാക്കിയതാണ് തത്ത്വശാസ്ത്രം.
