Teacher expectation is defined as the ideas held by teachers about the potential achievements of their students. Teachers may have both high and low expectations. High expectation is a teacher’s belief that the student will make accelerated progress and low expectation is the belief that the student will not make significant changes in their achievement levels. Teachers can make a difference in student achievements. Contrary to popular belief, a teacher’s expectation, rather than the student’s ability goes a long way in determining the achievement of the students. High expectation of teachers changes beliefs, attitudes and teaching practices. It creates advanced opportunities for students to learn and the self-efficacy in students makes more progress.
