Socialism is a political, social, and economic philosophy encompassing a range of economic and social systems characterised by social ownership of the means of production and democratic control. Socialists were against private property, and saw it as the root of all social ills of the time. The Russian Revolution lasted from 1917 to 1923 and marked the end of the Romanov dynasty or Russian Imperial Rule. The Bolsheviks, led by Vladimir Lenin seized power from Czar Nicholas II to form the Soviet Union. This was the beginning of Communism in Russia. Socialism in Russia had the greatest goal of common wealth. Since the government controls almost all of society's functions, it can make better use of resources, labors and lands; Socialism reduces disparity in wealth, not only in different areas, but also in all societal ranks and classes.
