Growing Up as Boys and Girls' is a chapter in the class 7 NCERT social science textbook ‘Social and Political Life - II’. Being a boy or a girl is an important part of one’s identity. The society we grow up in teaches us what kind of behaviour is acceptable for girls and boys, what boys and girls can or cannot do. We often grow up thinking that these things are exactly the same everywhere. It’s NOT! Most societies value men and women differently. The roles women play and the work they do are usually valued less than the roles men play and the work they do. Inequalities between men and women exist in work spaces too. The government is committed to understand the reasons and take positive steps to remedy the situation. All these concepts and ideas, discssed in the chapter are explained in two PPTs. The following topics covered in the first half of the chapter can be found in this PPT: · Growing up in Samoa in the 1920s · Growing up male in Madhya Pradesh in the 1960s Download both the PPTs on the chapter to understand the topics and do well in your school examinations.
