Sir Frederick Alfred Laker, an English entrepreneur, launched Laker Airways in 1966, but it went bankrupt in 1982. He was the first airline owner to adopt the "low cost/no-frills" airline business model, which has proven to be tremendously successful around the world with firms like Norwegian Air, Ryanair, EasyJet, AirAsia, and WestJet.
