Rocks

Presentations | English

A rock is a solid mass of geological materials which include individual mineral crystals, inorganic non-mineral solids like glass, pieces broken from other rocks and even fossils. There are three main types: sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic. Each of these are formed by physical changes such as melting, cooling, eroding, compacting or deforming that are part of the rock cycle. Sedimentary types are formed from pieces of other existing rock or organic materials. Metamorphic types are which that have been changed from their original form by high heat or pressure. Igneous rocks are formed when molten hot material cools and solidifies. They are composed primarily of grains of minerals, which are crystalline solids formed from atoms chemical bonded into an orderly structure. They help us to develop new technologies and are used in our everyday lives. People use these for building materials, cosmetics, cars, roads and appliances.
