Rehabilitation Psychology

Rehabilitation psychology is the study and application of psychological concepts on behalf of people who are disabled as a result of an injury or illness. Rehabilitation psychologists diagnose and treat cognitive, emotional, and functional impairments, as well as assist patients in overcoming obstacles to participation in everyday activities. They generally work in teams. Rehabilitation psychologists work in practise, research, and advocacy to promote independence and opportunity for persons with impairments. Rehabilitation psychology assists persons of all ages who are disabled due to an injury or chronic ailment. Traumatic brain damage, stroke, spinal cord injury, limb loss, sensory loss, burn injury, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, and neuromuscular diseases are examples of typical demographic groupings. Rehabilitation psychologists assist people with disabilities and their caregivers/family members.
