Radiation protection or more formally termed radiological protection explains the necessity and methods to protect oneself from extreme exposure to severe radiation. The three effective steps to protect oneself from harmful radiation are time, distance, and shield. Limiting the exposure time minimizes the dose from the radiation source. As well as the dose of radiation reduces as one increases his or her distance from the source. Insertion of the proper shield such as lead, concrete, and water between the person and radiation source protects him or her from the penetration of potentially harmful radiation such as gamma rays and x-rays.
