Based on radio waves, RADAR (Radio Detecting and Ranging) is a detection unit with an electromagnetic sensor. It helps in determining distance, velocity or angle of objects, mainly used in military, air traffic control, remote sensing, ground traffic control and space. Major objective is to find out faraway targets. The system has a transmitter, a receiver, wave guides, duplex, antenna and threshold decision. Working principle is very simple, it transmits electromagnetic waves which gets transmitted after hitting an object in the pathway and is received by the receiver. The reflected back waves which are weak, is strengthened by electronic amplifiers. In aviation, aircraft have radar devices to get warned by obstacles approaching the path of flight and also display weather information. Marine radars are used to prevent collisions with distant ships and also to fix a position in the sea in a range of shore. Also, in precipitation monitoring and weather forecasting radars have applications. Looking out for more information about RADAR? Have a look into the powerpoint presentation.
