Psychology of Personality

Presentations | English

Has it ever occurred to you that Professional psychologists can study the Personalities of every individual? Personality refers to individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. Personality psychology attempts to study similarities and differences in these patterns among different people and groups. Studies of personality psychology try to understand how personality develops as well as how it influences the way we think and behave. The five-factor model of personality (FFM) is a set of five broad trait dimensions or domains, often referred to as the “Big Five”: Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism (sometimes named by its polar opposite, Emotional Stability), and Openness to Experience (sometimes named Intellect). Psychologists look at how personality varies among individuals as well as how people are similar. They also assess, diagnose, and treat personality disorders. Personality psychology aims to understand individual differences between people. It is also distinctive for its proclivity in developing integrative and broad-based conceptual perspectives that aim to understand the whole person.
