A portfolio manager is a person or group of people responsible for investing a mutual, exchange traded or closed-end fund's assets, implementing its investment strategy, and managing day-to-day portfolio trading. Portfolio managers are one of the most important factors to consider when looking at fund investing. They determine a client's appropriate level of risk based on the client's time horizon, risk preferences, return expectations, and market conditions. Portfolio managers are investment decision-makers. They devise and implement investment strategies and processes to meet client goals and constraints, construct and manage portfolios, make decisions on what and when to buy and sell investments. One of the most coveted careers in the financial industry is that of the portfolio manager.
