What is popular literature and its characteristics? Popular literature includes those writings intended for the masses and those that find favour with large audiences. It can be distinguished from artistic literature in that it is designed primarily to entertain. Popular literature in English is writing which has shown wide and continued acceptance, measured by sales, frequent imitation, adaptation to other cultural forms and general commercial success. Literature is how we express universal thoughts and ideas through writing. These can take many forms, including poems, essays, and novels. Cross-cultural literature, therefore, is written expression from different cultures and their worldviews compared to other cultures and their world views. Culture influences literature through religious ideas, moral values, language, and gender norms, just to name a few potential variables.
