Plastic takes centuries to break down. Large percentage of marine and land creatures have died due to the hazardous effect of non-biodegradable plastic and it causes hazards to soil too. It also emits toxic gasses when exposed or heated up. Plastic bags are polluting coastlines, waterways and oceans where they damage animals and ecosystems. Banning single use plastic bags will go a long way to stopping the source of plastic pollution. Toxic chemicals leach out of plastic and are found in the blood and tissue of nearly all of us.
