Extrachromosomal DNA that is physically different from chromosomal DNA and has its own replication apparatus is called a plasmid. Small, circular, double-stranded DNA molecules known as plasmids are most usually found in bacteria, while they can also occasionally be detected in archaea and eukaryotic cells. Plasmids are present in some eukaryotic cells as well as in bacterial cells. Genes that give bacteria genetic advantages like antibiotic resistance are frequently carried by plasmids. This presentation offers in-depth understanding of the topic.
