Diseases that affect the gastrointestinal tract are termed as gastrointestinal diseases. Low-fiber diet, changes in general routine including traveling, consuming large quantity of dairy products and stress are some of the factors that affect the GI tract. Functional and structural GI disorders are the two types of GI disorders. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a disorder in which the colon muscle contracts more or less frequently than it should. GERD is a disorder in which stomach acid runs back into the esophagus frequently. Peptic ulcer disease is a condition in which the lining of the stomach or the first part of the small intestine develops painful sores or ulcers. The term "gastroenteritis" refers to any inflammatory disorder of the gastrointestinal tract. Dilated veins in the anal canal create hemorrhoids, which is a structural condition.
