The sticks are made by cutting the kamukin bark and mixing it with the green juice and cutting the edges with bark. The kolam of the ritual goddess is made of charcoal, red stone, and turmeric. The paraphernalia is made up of a variety of sticks, which are beautifully carved, cut into a definite shape, assembled with green yarn, and decorated with beautifully cut coriander, komukin flowers, and garlands, and are used to make tealights with sapphires, charcoal, and turmeric. Artists piercing the columns raise their heads and climb into the temple courtyard. Fifty-one and one hundred palms are used for kalankolam and bhairavikolam. The Padayani is said to have originated from a similar dance form practiced by the Kaniyans, a section of the ancient Ganaka community.
പടയണി തികച്ചും ദ്രാവിഡീയമായ ആചാരങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ്. പടയണിക്ക് പലതരത്തിലുള്ള കോലങ്ങളാണ് കെട്ടിത്തുള്ളുന്നു കമുകിൻപാള കലാഭംഗിയോടെ മുറിച്ച് നിയതവും നിശ്ചിതവുമായ ആകൃതിയിൽ ചെത്തിയെടുത്ത് പച്ച ഈർക്കിൽകൊണ്ടു കൂട്ടിയോജിപ്പിച്ച്, ഭംഗിയോടെ മുറിച്ചെടുത്ത കുരുത്തോലയും കമുകിൻ പൂക്കുലയും, പൂമാലകളും അലങ്കരിച്ച് ചെങ്കല്ല്, കരി, മഞ്ഞൾ എന്നിവ കൊണ്ട് ചായക്കൂട്ടുകൾ ഉണ്ടാക്കി ആ നിറക്കൂട്ടുകളാൽ ചിത്രകാരന്മാർ നിയതരൂപങ്ങൾ അവയിൽ എഴുതുന്നു. കോലങ്ങൾ തുള്ളൽ കലാകാരന്മാർ തലയിലേറ്റി ക്ഷേത്രാങ്കണത്തിലേക്ക് എഴുന്നള്ളിക്കുന്നു. കാലൻകോലം, ഭൈരവിക്കോലം എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് അമ്പത്തൊന്നും, നൂറ്റൊന്നും പാളവരെ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.
