Indeed we are living in a technologically and technically advanced world! Everything is possible at our fingertips. The right use of such advancements brings ease and efficiency to our lives. Fiber optic splicing is the process of joining two or more fibers together. Splicing fibers are commonly used to rejoin fiber optic cables when accidentally broken or to fuse two fibers to create a fiber that is long enough for the required cable run. A fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is a microstructure typically a few millimeters in length that can be photo inscribed in the core of a single-mode fiber. This is done by transversely illuminating the fiber with a UV laser beam and using a phase mask to generate an interference pattern in its core. The fiber grating is utilized to simultaneously couple light out of the fiber and separate the wavelengths. Download this PPT to learn more about the advanced technology involved in optical fibers.
