H2S is the chemical formula of Hydrogen Sulphide, which is a hazardous gas that is colorless, flammable, soluble in water. The smell of the gas is similar to rotten eggs. The gas is called as 'Silent Kiler' , because at high concentrations, your ability to smell the gas can be lost instantly. Coming to oil gas industry, the exposure to this gas is a major concern especially at oil and natural gas wells, in refineries, natural gas plants, and at pipelines. Being 19% heavier than air and collects in low-lying areas and confined spaces, the gas is highly flammable. It can cause sudden ignition at high temperatures leading to an explosion. Hydrogen sulphide is usually in gas form indicating invisibility to naked eyes. It can react strong oxidizers, bleach, and hydrogen peroxide to cause fire, explosions, or metal damage. The protection of workers from this gas is always company's responsibility. Read to know more on Hydrogen Sulphide in Oil Gas Industry.
