When we type some letters or words, the computer translates them in numbers as computers can understand only numbers. A number system can be used to represent the number of students in a class or number of viewers watching a certain TV program etc. Number system in computer or system of numeration is a writing system for expressing numbers; that is, a mathematical notation for representing numbers of a given set, using digits or other symbols in a constant manner. Decimal number system is the most common number system. The number system having just these two digits zero and one is called binary number system. The digital computer represents all kinds of data and information in binary numbers system in various ways. It denotes a group of characters which denote various numerical quantities. Number systems are the technique to represent numbers in the computer system architecture. Every value that you are saving or getting into or from computer memory has a defined number system.
