Nirmal paintings from the state of Telangana are acclaimed the world over. They get their name from the town of Nirmal from where they originate. The history of this handcraft can be traced back to the 14th century, to the era of the Kakatiya dynasty, when one of the independent rulers brought over some painters from the Marathwada region and established a colony for them to indulge in their art. The art form was also appreciated by the Nizams and was given a modern thrust by Lady Hyderi in the 1950s. Catch all this and more on how these paintings are created, in this presentation.
