Network security is a broad term that covers a lot of technologies, devices and processes. In its simplest term, it is a set of rules and configurations designed to protect the integrity, confidentiality and accessibility of computer networks and data using both software and hardware technologies. It is important for home networks as well as in the business world. Most homes with high-speed internet connections have one or more wireless routers, which could be exploited if not properly secured. A solid security system helps reduce the risk of data loss, theft and destruction. It involves access control, virus and antivirus software, application security, network analytics, types of network-related security (endpoint, web, wireless), firewalls, VPN encryption and more. Fundamental concepts include identification of common vulnerabilities and threats and reduction strategies. Implementation of a security architecture using a lifecycle approach, include the phases of the process, their dependencies and the importance of a sound security policy.
