Nervous System

Presentations | English

Nervous system is the command centre of our body. It controls complicated processes like movement, thought and memory. It also plays an essential role in the things that body does without thinking such as breathing, blushing and blinking. The nervous system is the part of an animal’s body that coordinates its behaviour and transmits signals between different body areas. In vertebrates, it consists of two main parts called the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system contains the brain and spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system contains nerves that branch out from brain and spinal cord. Nervous systems are found in almost all multicellular animals but vary greatly in complexity. The only multicellular animals that have no nervous system at all are sponges and microscopic blob like organisms called placozoans and mesozoans. At the most basic level, the function of the nervous system is to control movement of the organism. This is achieved by sending signals from one cell to others, or from one part of the body to others.
