The study of the earth's atmosphere and the changes in temperature and moisture distribution that give rise to various weather conditions is known as meteorology. It is a field of the atmospheric sciences that primarily focuses on weather forecasting. The atmospheric sciences include atmospheric chemistry and atmospheric physics. Meteorology is the study of meteorological phenomena, which explains observed weather events. The variables of the earth's atmosphere, such as temperature, air pressure, water vapour, and mass flow, as well as fluctuations and interactions among these variables and how they change over time, are used to explain and quantify the phenomenon. The subject has applications in a wide range of industries, including the military, energy production, transportation, agriculture, and building. See this Powerpoint for more information.
