The Maya civilization was one of the most prominent indigenous communities of Mesoamerica. The Ancient Mayans nurtured the science of astronomy, calendar methods, and hieroglyphic writing. They were also identified for developing detailed decorous architecture, such as pyramids, temples, castles, and watchtowers. These buildings were all constructed without metal equipment. They were proficient weavers and potters. The Maya forged their initial civilization in the Preclassic period or Formative Period. The timeliest Maya was agricultural, cultivating crops such as corn, maize, beans etc. Besides agriculture, the Preclassic Maya also exhibited more progressive cultural characteristics like pyramid-building, constructing temples and watchtowers and the inscribing of stone shrines. This period was followed by the Classic periods- formations of Arts and Culture and eventually the decline of the civilization in the late 18thcentury. Please go through the PPT for more information.
