Locomotion is the displacement of a body from one place to another. On the contrary, movement is the displacement of a body or a part of the body from its original position. Movement is the temporary or permanent displacement of a body or its parts from its original position. An example of movement is when you lift your arm above your head. An example of movement is when you go from place to place and accomplish different tasks. Living beings and parts thereof move in response to stimulus from outside or from within the body. Locomotion helps us in running through various conditions of the environment around us. The movement of limbs, trunk and head helps in changing posture of the human body and maintain equilibrium against gravity. The skeletal system plays a vital role in the locomotion and movement. The coordinated movement of skeletal muscles, bones, ligaments help in locomotion.
