The processes and functions that allow life to exist on Earth are mostly owing to these processes and functions. For organisms to remain healthy and maintain the appropriate functioning of their organ systems, a number of fundamental yet critical activities are required. All of these mechanisms are necessary for survival. When it comes to life processes, there are six main processes that an organism possesses that compute the total state of life. The physiological and psychological functions of bodily systems are referred to as body functions. The functions of the organism are ultimately the functions of its cells. The most vital business of the body is survival. The body's ability to maintain or restore homeostasis, or relative consistency, of its internal environment is critical to survival. The capacity of the body to accomplish many of its activities deteriorates over time. In general, the body executes its duties the worst at both the beginning and the end of life - infancy and old age. Body functions improve in efficiency and effectiveness as children get older. The reverse is true in late adulthood and old age.
