An ideology is a set of beliefs or philosophies attributed to a person or group of persons, especially as held for reasons that are not purely epistemic. It is a form of social or political philosophy in which practical elements are as prominent as theoretical ones. Religions and ideologies present important differences. The main one stems from the sources of authority they rely on. Religions refer to God, or gods or a superior principle; ideologies only deal with terrestrial realities. Language and ideology are intertwined since ideology provides the framework within which a linguistic message is constructed and expressed. Language ideology (also known as linguistic ideology) is used within anthropology (especially linguistic anthropology), sociolinguistics, and cross-cultural studies, to characterize any set of beliefs about languages as they are used in their social worlds. The presentation will give better insight on the topic.
