Language, Religion & Ideology

Presentations | English

Is Ethnicity related to Language, Religion, and Ideology? Ethnicity is considered to be shared characteristics such as culture, language, religion, and traditions, which contribute to a person or group's identity. Language, a system of conventional spoken, manual (signed), or written symbols using which human beings, as members of a social group and participants in its culture, express themselves. Religion is a social-cultural system of designated behaviors and practices, morals, beliefs, worldviews, texts, sanctified places, prophecies, ethics, or organizations, that relates humanity to supernatural, transcendental, and spiritual elements. An ideology is a set of opinions or beliefs of a group or an individual. There is a relationship between a speaker's ethnic group membership and the use of language, it can be used to distinguish themselves linguistically and socially from the majority of society and its language varieties. Ethnicity itself is community and identity. Putting the similar functions of ethnicity and religion together, groups that are both ethnic and religious can have a stronger basis for meaning-construction and cohesion.
