Kalakkathu Kunchan Nambiar was a pioneering Malayalam poet, performer, humorist, and the creator of the Ottamthullal local art form. Geethanandan was born on May 5, 1705, in Kothachira village, Palakkad district, to Kesavan Nambeesan and Savithri Brahmani Amma. His father, a well-known artiste in Valluvanad, passed down his talent for Thullal to him. Geethanandan began his studies with his father. Many regard Kunchan Nambiar as the master of Malayalam satire poetry, and he is credited with popularising the Ottan Thullal performing art form. According to popular legend, Nambiar created this art form to avenge the mockery he received from a Chakyar Koothu artist when he fell asleep while accompanying the koothu performance on Mizhavu.
കളക്കത്ത് കുഞ്ചൻ നമ്പ്യാർ ഒരു മലയാള കവിയും, അവതാരകനും, ഹാസ്യകാരനും, ഓട്ടംതുള്ളൽ പ്രാദേശിക കലാരൂപത്തിന്റെ സ്രഷ്ടാവുമായിരുന്നു. പാലക്കാട് ജില്ലയിലെ കോതാച്ചിറ ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ കേശവൻ നമ്പീശന്റെയും സാവിത്രി ബ്രാഹ്മണി അമ്മയുടെയും മകനായി 1705 മെയ് 5 നാണ് ഗീതാനന്ദൻ ജനിച്ചത്. വള്ളുവനാട്ടിലെ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന കലാകാരനായ അച്ഛനാണ് തുള്ളലിനുള്ള തന്റെ കഴിവ് പകർന്ന് നൽകിയത്. ഗീതാനന്ദൻ പിതാവിനൊപ്പമാണ് പഠനം ആരംഭിച്ചത്. കുഞ്ചൻ നമ്പ്യാരെ മലയാളം ആക്ഷേപഹാസ്യ കവിതയുടെ ആചാര്യനായി പലരും കണക്കാക്കുന്നു, ഓട്ടൻ തുള്ളൽ കലാരൂപത്തെ ജനകീയമാക്കിയതിന്റെ ബഹുമതി അദ്ദേഹത്തിനുണ്ട്. ഒരു ചാക്യാർ കൂത്ത് കലാകാരന് മിഴാവിലെ കൂത്ത് അവതരിപ്പിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഉറങ്ങിപ്പോയപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ലഭിച്ച പരിഹാസത്തിന് പ്രതികാരം ചെയ്യാനാണ് നമ്പ്യാർ ഈ കലാരൂപം സൃഷ്ടിച്ചതെന്നാണ് ഐതിഹ്യം.
