In biology, a kingdom is the second highest taxonomic rank, just below domain. Kingdoms are divided into smaller groups called phyla. While the concept of kingdoms continues to be used by some taxonomists, there has been a movement away from traditional kingdoms, as they are no longer seen as providing a cladistics classification, where there is emphasis in arranging organisms into natural groups. Bacteria live in many different environments. This kingdom includes many pathogens , including Salmonella, which causes food poisoning, but also many economically important species such as Lactobacillus, which is used to make yogurt. Animalia is the kingdom you are probably most familiar with. All animals are multicellular. They consist of more than one cell working together as a single organism.
