The book of Judges, like other books of the Old Testament, takes its name from the subject to which it chiefly relates. The book is the history of the Commonwealth of Israel. In the book of Judges, we see the miserable state of the nation and at the same time the intervention of the God of the mercy in the circumstances into which their unfaithfulness had brought them. It is the sorrowful history of the people of God, but it is also the history of grace of God, and of His compassion towards His people.
