“Joy to the world, the Lord has come”. It is one of the most Christmassy Carol song ever. Isaac Watts wrote the lyrics to the well-known Christmas Carol hymn. "Joy to the World" was the most-published Christmas hymn in North America by the late twentieth century. This hymn is a "joyous" celebration of God's sovereignty and Jesus' gift. The song is based on the 98th Psalm from the bible. Lowell Mason adapted and arranged the music to Watts' lyrics in 1839 from an older melody thought to have originated with Handel at the time. Imitated in New Testament language and applied to the Christian state and worship. However Watts wrote "Joy to the World" as a hymn glorifying Christ's triumphant return at the end of the age, not as a song celebrating His first coming.
