The cell is the fundamental unit of life in all organisms. Plants, like humans and animals, have numerous cells. The plant cell is surrounded by a cell wall, which helps shape it. Aside from the cell wall, other organelles participate in various cellular activities. Plant cells are eukaryotic cells that differ fundamentally from other eukaryotic organisms. One of the distinguishing characteristics of a plant cell is the presence of a cell wall outside the cell membrane. The plant cell is larger and more rectangular than the animal cell.
