"Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi was the third Prime Minister and the first ever woman Prime Minister of India. Born on the 14th of January, 1917 to first Prime Minister Sri Jawaharlal Nehru and Kamala Nehru, India Gandhi was the central figure of the Indian National Congress. She is to day the second longest serving Prime Minister, while the first position is held by her father. In 1959, she was elected president of the Indian National Congress and later after her father’s demise, was also appointed as a member of the Rajya Sabha. As apolitical leader, she was greatly noticed for her intransigent nature and her unprecedented centralisation of power. She played an important role in the creation of the country of Bangladesh, which was the result of a series of events that followed after she supported the Indian Independence movement and went to war with Pakistan and sealing India’s victory. "
