Firmly believed to be the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama Thubten Gyatso, the 14the Dalai Lama was born on the 6th of July, 1935 and started his journey as the esteemed Tibetan spiritual leader at the young age of merely five, and a year after, he started his monastic education. The syllabus was derived from the Nalanda tradition and involved subjects from logic, Sanskrit and fine arts including poetry and composition, to medicine, however, the main focus of study was always Buddhist philosophy, which was again categorised into five different classes – Prajnaparamita, Madhyamika, Vinaya, Abidharma and finally Pramana. In 1950, as a result of China's invasion of Tibet, he was invited to join a meeting with other Chinese leaders. In 1959, the 14th Dalai Lama was forced into exile and therefore, he has now been living in Dharamsala, of the northern India.
